The Game Story:
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Sophomore Sean Brown scored three goals and added three assists to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 12-1 win over Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday at a cold Battleground Stadium. Freshman Dan Coats added three goals for the Eagles, who improve to 5-7 overall.
UMW jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, with goals by Brown, Pete Collins, and Brent Fisk. The Presidents scored with 4:08 left in the quarter on a goal by Sean Jasionowski. The Eagles erupted for five second quarter goals, with Brown and Coats scoring two apiece, and Collins adding another, to lead 8-1 at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Eagles add three more goals, by Coats, Marc D'Eredita, and long stick middie Peter Lytle. Freshman David Pierandri capped the scoring on an assist from Broughan Fanning in the fourth. Junior Eric Everitt picked up the win in goal for the Eagles, making making two saves and allowing one goal in 51 minutes of play. Freshman Chris Simonin made two stops in nine minutes for UMW. Andrew Reid had nine saves for W&J in three quarters, and Brad Lowery added three saves in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles outshot the Presidents, 43-13, and had 34 ground balls to 21 for W&J. Matt Richman-Raphael added nine faceoff wins for the Eagles, who will host Marymount University on Wednesday at 4 pm in a CAC contest.
