The Game Story:
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA (Mar. 31) - Sophomore midfielders Jordan MacPherson (Westwood, MA/Westwood HS) and Justin Lawless (Quincy, MA/Archbishop Williams HS) each scored twice to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team to a 9-1 victory over visiting Western Connecticut State in the Little East Conference opener for both schools at Cressy Field Saturday.

MacPherson and Lawless opened the scoring, with MacPherson converting as pass from sophomore midfielder Todd Davis (East Sandwich, MA/Sandwich HS) with 11:21 left in the first quarter and Lawless scoring unassisted less than a minute later. Freshman midfielder Riley Baxter (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS), MacPherson and sophomore attacker Adam Niden (Walpole, MA/Walpole HS) scored in the second quarter and the Corsairs took a 5-0 halftime lead.

Lawless, Davis and freshman attacker Connor Gaffney (Andover, MA/Andover HS) scored in the third quarter before senior midfielder Mike Schoen (Tolland, CT/Tolland HS) put the Colonials on the board with 18 seconds left in the third quarter. Senior midfielder Christian Roberto (Wakefield, MA/Malden Catholic HS) scored UMD's last goal in the fourth quarter.

The Corsairs outshot the Colonials, 38-24. UMass Dartmouth sophomore goalkeeper Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) made 12 saves, while senior goalie Tyler Martone (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire HS) stopped 16 shots for the Colonials.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 5-1 and 1-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while Western Connecticut dropped to 5-3 and 0-1 in the LEC with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Nichols Thursday. The Colonials will visit Trinity Tuesday.
