|NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team scored 10 goals in the first period and went on to defeat visiting Becker, 19-1, at Cressy Field Thursday afternoon.|
Freshman attackman Brian Flanagan (Walpole, MA/Walpole HS) and freshman midfielder Nick Campbell (Rutland, VT/Rutland HS) each scored twice in the first period as the Corsairs scored 10 goals within a span of 10 minutes and eight seconds.
Sophomore midfielder Pat Kohout (Leeds, MA/Northampton HS) scored four times and added an assist for UMass Dartmouth, while Flanagan scored twice and added three assists. Senior attackman Bobby Young (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) scored twice and assisted twice, sophomore attackman Andrew Foster (Newbury, MA/Danvers HS) had a goal and three assists, and sophomore midfielder Timur Amirkanov (Quincy, MA/ Quincy HS), sophomore attackman Robinson Douglas (Grafton, MA/Grafton HS) and freshman midfielder Robert Smith (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) each scored twice. Freshman midfielder John Bourque (Atkinson, NH/Timberlane HS) scored for the Hawks, assisted by freshman midfielder Mike Oloskey (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth South HS).
"It was another step in the right direction for us," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "Parts of our game are better, and we still need to work on some things. We got to play everyone, and this will help us when we play more experienced teams in the next few weeks."
Junior goalkeeper Steve Chase (Boston, MA/Boston Latin HS) started and played the first half for the Corsairs, blanking the Hawks and making six saves. Freshman Brendan Casey (Groveland, MA/Pentucket HS) registered five saves while playing the second half. Senior Peter Fellows (Boylston, MA/O'Neill HS) made 18 saves for BC.
UMass Dartmouth improved to 3-0 with the victory, while Becker dropped to 0-1 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Clark Saturday afternoon, while the Hawks will visit Maine Maritime Saturday.
