April 10, 2010
The Game Story:
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Senior Kyle Marzeoti (Billerica, Mass.) netted four goals, while junior Tyler Nicoll (Ogden, Utah) added a hat trick to lift Norwich to a 10-8 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Marzeoti tallied twice in the opening 15 minutes of play to stake the visiting Cadets (6-3, 1-1 Pilgrim) to a 3-1 first quarter advantage, and Nicollís man-up marker 1:45 into the second stanza extended that margin to 4-1. Junior Michael Lambros (Forestdale, Mass.) scored a man-up goal less than three minutes later that enabled the host Buccaneers (1-8, 0-2 Pilgrim) to slice their deficit in half, but Nicholís second goal of the day with nine seconds remaining in the half gave Norwich a 5-2 lead at the break. Man-up markers off the sticks of Marzeoti and freshman Michael White (Walpole, Mass.) helped give the visitors a 9-5 advantage heading into the final quarter of play, but Massachusetts Maritime received a pair of goals from sophomore Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) that sandwiched a tally by senior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) that allowed the hosts to storm back to within one at 9-8. Freshman Joe Galante (Framingham, Mass.) provided a key insurance goal for the Cadets with 4:25 remaining to close out the scoring, as Norwich controlled the clock in the closing minutes to post its third straight triumph.

White added a pair of assists to go with his goal to finish with three points in the win for the Cadets, who also received a marker off the stick of senior Jesse Mattson (Los Angeles, Calif.) and single assists from seniors Nathaniel Davis (York Beach, Maine), Justin Pearson (Theresa, N.Y.) and Nick Talcott (Lebanon, N.H.) as well as junior Tyler Woods (Essex Junction, Vt.). Burke finished with a hat trick and a pair of assists for five points in the setback for the Buccaneers, who also received a pair of tallies from sophomore Kyle Lersch (Suffolk, Va.) as well as an assist off the stick of freshman Kevin Flanigan (Sandwich, Mass.).

Freshman Caleb Fournier (Sabattus, Maine) picked up his first collegiate win in goal with an eight-save effort for Norwich, while senior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 18 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Cadets outshot the Buccaneers by a 35-30 margin for the match.
