| COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The University of Scranton turned in another solid defensive effort in a 16-6 victory over Medaille College (N.Y.) in the opening round of the sixth annual Colorado College Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for the Royals, now 5-1 this season and 12-10 in the last two seasons under head coach Kevin Dugan. Prior to his arrival, Scranton won a total of just eight games over a three-year period from 2004 through 2006. Once again, the defense took over in the second-half. After building up a three-goal lead by intermission, the Royals allowed just one goal in the final 30 minutes of play. For the season, Scranton has allowed only 13 second-half goals and just 38 overall, an average of 6.33 per game. Freshman attacker Kyle Frank (Glen Arm, Md./Boys’ Latin) led a balanced attack on offense with three goals and two assists and freshmen Tim Golder (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Keenan Dowd (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic), sophomore Phil Lindner (Parlin, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen), and junior Nick Youngstrom (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) scored two goals apiece. The Royals also received a goal and two assists from freshman midfielder Christian Dugan (Avon, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and freshman attacker Stephen Bruestle (Holland, Pa./Archbishop Wood). Freshman goalie Jeremy Dowiak (Hackettstown, N.J./West Morris) finished with eight saves for Scranton, which once again controlled the action by winning 19 of 24 face-offs. For the season, the Royals are 85 of 133 in face-offs (63.9 percent). The Royals will close out the Spring Break trip on Thursday, March 20, by taking on the host school, Colorado College, beginning at 4:30 p.m. |
