Messiah vs. Desales

The Game Story:
Grantham, PA The 6th ranked Messiah College Falcons improved to 7-0 on the season, and 4-0 in MAC play with a 21-4 victory over MAC opponent Desales University. The Falcons would jump out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, and build a 15-2 lead at the half. Desales would score two in the third, while the Falcons did not find the goal until they scored with one second left in the quarter. The final quarter saw four MC players score their first goals of the year, and proved to be the final four of the game.

Freshman attackmen Alex Finch led all scorers with 7 points (4g,3a), while sophomore Andrew Collins (3g,3) and senior Jono Linebaugh (2g,4a) had six points each. Sophomore Peter McLean and junior Denny Erb led the midfield with 2 goals apiece. A second attack unit of sophomore AJ Bogaczyk (3 goals), senior Brendan Harper (1g) and fellow senior Pat Emery (1g) all scored their first goals of the season. First career goals went to freshman Ian Lee and Seth Baxter. Junior midfielder Tosh Tryon (1g,1a) won 13 of 17 face-offs, picking up 6 ground balls. Sophomore Stu Oberg went 6-11, and picked up a game high 8 GBs.

Desales (2-4, 0-3) was led by senior midfielder Brian Kuttler, with 3 goals. Sophomore attackmen Andrew Stametelos would score the fourth and final goal for the Bulldogs, off an assist from freshman Jim Ramsey.

The Falcons would out-shoot DU 48-24 on the day, and won the ground ball battle 69-51. The Falcons were successful on 22 of 25 clearing attempts, while Desales went 13 of 17. The face-off battle went 21-7 in favor of the Falcons. MC cashed in on all three extra man opportunities, while successfully killing their one man down infraction.

Senior Chris Gilbert played 30:00 for MC, making 6 stops and allowing 2 goals. Freshman Ted Oberg played (18:49, 4 saves, 2 GA) and Dustin Jefferies (10:11, 2 saves, 0 GA) would share time during the second half. Desales would split halves with two sophomore goalies, Ben Conroy (30:00, 2 saves, 15 GA) and Mike Hensinger (30:00, 6 saves, 6 GA).

The Falcons will travel to Wilkes Barre, PA, to play their next MAC foe, the Kings College Monarchs. Game time is at 1:00PM.
