| GRANTHAM, Pa. – Messiah darted out to a 4-0 first period lead and never looked back as the Falcons (4-4) defeated Ursinus (5-5) 11-8 Wednesday afternoon in men’s lacrosse non-conference play. Ursinus got three goals from sophomore attack Dan Monzo (Collegeville, PA/Spring Ford) in the loss, while senior midfielder Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored the 100th goal of his career, as he scored with 2:17 left in the game. After trailing 4-0 at the end of the first, Ursinus got back to within two at 4-2 as sophomore attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) and sophomore midfielder Tom Walsh (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) scored goals in the first 3:43 of the second period. Ursinus would only get as close as two goals, the last time coming with 12:57 to go in the third period. Monzo scored his first goal of the game at that time, on an assist from Farris. Farris had a goal and a team-high two assists on the afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) made 18 saves as he faced 47 shots on the afternoon. Defensively, Ursinus picked up 23 groundballs with junior midfielder Ian Jordan (Media, PA/Penncrest) grabbing three. Ursinus will travel to RPI on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. start. |
