| MIDDLEBURY MOVES TO 2-0 MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Middlebury College men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated Stevens Tech by a score of 9-7. The Panthers were ranked third in the latest Division III national poll, while the Ducks came in ranked 12th. Stevens led 1-0 before a pair of goals gave Middlebury a 2-1 lead. The Ducks tied the game with an extra-man goal from Jay Wells late in the first quarter to knot the game at two after one quarter of play. After exchanging four goals in the second quarter, Middlebury took a 5-4 lead on a goal from Jim Cabrera at the 11:52 mark of the third quarter. Joe VanSickle answered for Stevens before Henry Sheehan scored with just eight seconds left in the third quarter to give the Panthers a 6-5 lead heading into the fourth session. Travis Meyer gave Middlebury a 7-5 lead early in the fourth, before Patrick Bailey answered for Stevens at the 11:29 mark to make it a 7-6 game. Mark Foster gave Middlebury an 8-6 lead, before Aaron Herter scored cutting to the goal to increase the lead to 9-6 with 3:04 remaining. J.R. Oreskovich scored the game's final goal for Stevens with 2:28 remaining, as Middlebury held on for the win. Alex Palmisano made four saves in goal for Middlebury, while Jack Dunderdale made a dozen saves for Stevens. |
