| MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury jumped out to a 5-0 lead on its way to
a 17-10 win over Wesleyan in a NESCAC men's lacrosse matchup. The Panthers
improve to 5-0 and are the top-ranked team in the latest Division III
Middlebury jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 11 minutes, led by
a pair of goals each from Matt Dunn and Greg Carroll. Wesleyan jumped back
into the game with the first three goals of the second quarter to cut the
lead to 5-3. The Panthers answered with three of their own to take an 8-3
lead and a 9-5 lead into the break. The lead grew to 11-5 before the
Cardinals answered at the 9:18 mark. Each team added another tally to make
it a 12-7 contest after three quarters. Middlebury opened the fourth quarter
with four straight goals, including three by Zach Herbert to put the game
away and lock up the 17-10 win.
Herbert led the team with four goals and two assists, followed by
Matt Dunn with three goals and two assists and David Seeley with two goals
and three assists. Chris Walsh led Wesleyan with three goals, while Andrew
Rotando added two goals and one assist.
Eric Krieger made six saves in goal for Middlebury, while Blake
Maybeck made 17 saves for Wesleyan.
