| MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Second-ranked Middlebury improved to 3-0 in
the NESCAC and 6-0 overall with an 11-8 win over Wesleyan on Kohn Field.
The Cardinals drop to 0-2 in the league and 6-2 overall.
Middlebury opened the contest with two quick goals in the game's
first 1:28. Andrew Giordano struck first, while Mike Saraceni scored
driving to the goal at the 13:32 mark. The team's exchanged the next
three goals, the first by Wesleyan's Glenn Adams at 11:52. The Panthers
closed the quarter with a pair of goals to take a 5-2 lead after one. A
man-up goal by Mark Foster and a tally from Charley Howe gave Middlebury
a 7-3 lead at the break.
Wesleyan's Mike Vitulano cut the lead to 7-4 early in the third
quarter before the Panthers ran off three straight in a 3:15 span to
take a 10-4 lead. The Cardinals cut it to 10-5 late in the quarter and
10-6 early in the fourth. Middlebury answered at 5:33 with a goal from
Giordano, with Wesleyan scoring the game's last two goals to make it an
Howe and Foster led Middlebury with three goals apiece, while
Mike Saraceni had two goals and two assists. Ian Applegate paced the
Cardinals with two goals and an assist. Eric Krieger made six saves for
the Panthers, while Matt Wheeler made 10 stops for Wesleyan.
