MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury held Williams scoreless for a 33:58
span on its way to their 11th straight win over the Ephs, this time by a
score of 12-5. The Panthers will wrap up their regular season this
Saturday at Bates.
Williams took the lead early on goals by Chris Merwin and Tim
Pingree, giving them a 2-0 lead with 8:15 left in the first quarter.
Andrew Giordano put the Panthers on the board late in the quarter,
cutting the margin in half at the end of one. Middlebury then outscored
Williams 5-0 in the second quarter, and ran off nine straight goals
overall to take a 10-2 lead with 9:42 left to play in the third quarter.
Travis Meyer and Greg Bastis each had a pair of goals during the
decisive run. The Ephs scored twice in the final five minutes of the
third quarter to make it a 10-4 game. Middlebury answered with a pair in
the fourth before Williams scored the game's final goal to make it a
12-5 contest.
Mike Saraceni, Andrew Giordano, Travis Meyer and Greg Bastis
each had a pair of goals to lead the Middlebury offense. Tim Pingree and
Jeff Wilbur netted two apiece to pace the Ephs. Eric Krieger made nine
saves in goal for Middlebury, while Matt Rade made 16 stops for
Williams.
