|The Game Story:|
|CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four goals in the second quarter broke open the game as Salve Regina University went on to record an 11-4 victory over host MIT in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest on Saturday. The Seahawks (2-2) turned in a trio of four-point performances. Brendan Rooney racked up four goals, followed by three goals and an assist from Chris Walker and two goals and two assists by Michael Augustus. Corey Garvey paced the Engineers' (1-1) attack with a goal and an assist.|
Garvey found Dan Piemont for the first goal of the game at the 9:25 mark. Augustus won the ensuing faceoff and registered the equalizer eight seconds later. Salve Regina quickly captured the lead when Rooney converted a feed from Walker. The advantage was short-lived as MIT's Gabe Blanchett found the back of the net with 7:58 on the clock. Rooney posted his second goal of the period after connecting on a pass by Sam Barnum at 1:29 to put the Seahawks up, 3-2.
Augustus found Walker for his first tally of the contest after 1:11 elapsed in the second stanza. A solo effort from Garvey cut the Engineers' deficit in half, but Salve Regina rattled off three goals in a span of 2:26 to secure the lead. Maurie Fitzgerald set up Walker for what proved to be the game-winning goal while Rooney followed with a pair of unassisted markers. The visitors entered the intermission with a comfortable 7-3 cushion.
The third quarter was a defensive battle as both sides struggled to put the ball in the net. Michael Horn ended the scoring drought by redirecting a feed from Augustus with 3:41 remaining in the period. The Seahawks extended their run with just over a minute left when Blair Kelley scored on a pass from Brendan Carroll.
An unassisted goal by Carl Tilbury brought MIT within five (9-4) but it would not be able to generate a late rally to overcome the deficit. Walker and Augustus wrapped up the scoring with goals at 8:23 and 2:04, respectively.
Justin Myers won 13 of his 18 face-offs and picked up 12 groundballs for the Engineers. Christopher Rullan collected 13 saves and 11 groundballs while Garvey scooped up five groundballs. Nick Sisler bolstered the defense with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Christopher Connors compiled 12 saves and five groundballs as Walker tacked on five groundballs. William Milsop contributed four groundballs while Fitzgerald added a trio of groundballs and caused turnovers.
