The Game Story:
CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team picked up an important Pilgrim League victory Friday afternoon, defeating MIT, 17-7 en route to its first road victory of the season. The Lyons improve to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in the Pilgrim, while the Engineers fall to 5-3 on the year and 1-2 in the league.

The Blue and White opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the first period, when junior Evan Carbotti (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) scored to make it 1-0. Wheaton tacked on two more goals before MIT got on the board at 6:18 of the first period. The Lyons closed the stanza with three additional goals and a 6-1 lead. The Engineers pulled within two goals heading into the intermission, scoring three times within the last three minutes of play in the second period, including an unassisted goal by freshman Stefano Young (Silver Spring, MD/Gonzaga) with 1.7 second left.

Wheaton then exploded for eight goals in the third quarter, including the first two by junior Chris Milligan (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand), for a commanding 14-5 lead heading into the final period. MIT added two of the fourth quarter's first three goals, but it was not enough as Carbotti and Milligan added the final two Lyon tallies at the 4:19 and 1:51 minute marks, respectively, to close out the 17-7 triumph.

Offensively, Wheaton was led by Carbotti and Milligan, who combined to record nine goals and two assists. Junior attack Zak Putnam (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) posted three goals and an assist, while classmate Scott Liston (Plainfield, NH/Kimball Union) had a goal and three assists. For MIT, Young led the way with three goals and sophomore Carter Powers (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) added two assists.
