The Game Story:
Montclair, NJ (5/11/07) Ė Freshman attack Patrick Nann (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) scored a career-high six goals while sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Bowers (Hamburg, NJ/Pope John XXIII) came up with 23 saves as second-seeded Montclair State moved into the title game of the 2007 ECAC Division III Metro Menís Lacrosse Championship with a 17-13 victory over No. 3 seed Drew University at Sprague Field on Friday evening.

Senior midfielder Evan Wehmeyer ( Succasunna , NJ /Pope John XXIII) added a goal and five assists as the Red Hawks (11-6) advanced to the title game for the fifth consecutive season. Montclair will face Skyline foe and top seed Stevens for the championship on Sunday, May 13 at DeBaun Field in Hoboken , NJ . Stevens posted a 21-5 victory over Kean in the other semifinal on Friday. Earlier this season, the Red Hawks fell to Stevens, 13-8 at Sprague Field.

Freshman Jon Bucknam ( Flemington , NJ /Hunterdon Central) had four goals and three assists for Drew, which finished its season at 8-8. The Rangers also lost to MSU in the ECAC Tournament for the second time in three meetings as Drew posted a 14-2 win in the 1988 title contest before Montclair returned the favor in 1994 by an 18-12 margin.

Montclair State led 10-4 with 10:40 to play in the third period as Nann scored unassisted for his fourth goal of the game. A.J. Bachman ( Montville , NJ / Mountain Lakes ) added another goal 15 seconds later for a seven-goal cushion however, Drew would score the next five goals to pull within 11-9 on Bucknamís goal with 21 seconds left before the end of the third. But Montclair quickly responded as Bryan Klimchak ( Clark , NJ /AL Johnson) fed Nann seven seconds later as the Red Hawks led 12-9 heading into the final period.

Bucknamís fourth goal on the man-advantage brought the Rangers back within two goals, 12-10, 40 seconds into the final period, but Nann and Jonathan Lopez ( Nutley , NJ / Nutley ) scored 20 seconds apart midway through the quarter as Montclair restored the lead to 14-10 with 5:17 to play. Robert Budziszewski ( Buffalo , NY /Nichols) collected a pair of goals 16 second apart as Drew made one last push, trimming the lead to 15-13 with 3:03 left. But Montclair State ended any hopes of a comeback as Mario Passafiume ( Boonton , NJ / Mountain Lakes ) scored unassisted and Wehmeyer assisted on Klimchakís with 1:56 to go for the final margin.

Bachman finished with four goals while Klimchak had three and two assists. Senior John Della Pesca ( Fair Lawn , NJ / Fair Lawn ) had three assists as the Red Hawks outshot Drew, 49-44. Wehmeyer had six faceoff wins and six ground balls for the Red Hawks.

Drew goalkeeper Michael Celentano ( Bedminster , NJ /Mendham) had 11 saves for the Rangers. Budziszewski finished with four goals while Tom Stitt, Jr. ( Easton , PA / Moravian Academy ) added three goals. Sophomore face-off man Jon Dwoniak (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris) was outstanding as he won 20-of-32 attempts and had 11 ground balls.
