Montclair State vs. New York Maritime

The Game Story:
Montclair, NJ – Senior attack Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, NJ, Ridge) scored five times and added two assists as Montclair State wrapped up the Skyline Conference regular-season title for the fourth time in five years with a 20-4 victory over Maritime College at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Senior Matt Prongay (Edison, NJ, Edison) had three goals and two assists while Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ, West Essex) added three goals and one assist as the Red Hawks ran their winning streak to seven games. MSU (8-5), now 5-0 in the league, will be the top seed and will host a semifinal matchup on Wednesday, April 25 with an opponent and time to be determined. The Red Hawks have won the last three Skyline Conference championships.

MSU trailed just once in the game and that came early as the Privateers (3-12, 2-3 Skyline) scored 3:19 into the game on an unassisted tally.

The Red Hawks then exploded for the next 13 goals which stretched through the first, second and third periods. Kenneth Bogert (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) got things started with 10:38 to goal and two goals by Prongay in a 1:11 span made the score 3-1. Skeels added his first before Prongay set up Michael Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) with 1:21 left as Montclair State led 5-1 after the first period.

Prongay recorded the hat trick with 6:09 left and back-to-back goals from Meth less than a minute apart put MSU in front 8-1. John Barney (Ridgewood, NJ, Delbarton), who finished with four assists go a goal with 3:25 left before MSU found the back of the net three times in 40 seconds to close out the half. Meth, Skeels and Mike Chiavetta (Clifton, NJ, Clifton) had a goal apiece as Montclair State led 12-1 at the break.

Meth scored 16 seconds into the third as MSU held a 12-goal cushion and cruised from there.

Chiavetta, Thomas Ring (Nutley, NJ, Nutley) and Michael Jevic (Voorhees, NJ, Eastern Regional) had a goal and assist for Montclair State, which got goals from 12 different players. Bogert had nine faceoff wins with Skeels picking up a team-best five ground balls.

Goalkeepers Mark Glander (Vernon, NJ, Vernon Township), Michael Dorn (Blairstown, NJ, North Warren) and Ryan Afflitto (Pompton Plains, NJ, Pequannock) combined to stop five shots.

Montclair State closes out its regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 21 as it hosts Mount St. Mary at Sprague Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
