The Game Story:
Montclair, NJ – Junior attack Sam Morrissey (Hackettstown, NJ, West Morris Central) scored three times with senior Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ, West Essex) adding the same as top-seeded Montclair State advanced to the championship game of the Skyline Conference Tournament with a 12-5 win over No. 4 seed Richard Stockton on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Dorn (Blairstown, NJ, North Warren) made 16 saves for the Red Hawks (13-4), who will host No. 2 seed Keanon Saturday, April 27 at 12:00 pm. The winner of the contest will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Montclair State has won the last four Skyline titles and will be making its sixth consecutive appearance in the championship game.

Five of those championship games have come against the Cougars, including last year when MSU posted a 17-10 victory en route to capturing its fourth straight conference crown. The Red Hawks defeated Kean, 10-6 on April 17.

Sophomore attack Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner, NJ / North Hunterdon) had two goals for Richard Stockton, which fell to 7-9 with its second loss to MSU this season. The Ospreys dropped a 15-5 decision to the Red Hawks in Galloway Township on April 10.

Montclair State recorded all the scoring in the opening period. Zach Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) got the Red Hawks on the board 2:54 into the game as he finished off a feed from brother Michael Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central), who finished with three assists. Jevic accounted for the final two goals, including an unassisted tally with 13 seconds left as MSU led 3-0 after one period.

Morrissey and Skeels scored 26 seconds apart to extend the lead to 5-0 in the second before the Ospreys snapped the streak on a man-up goal by Drew Wright (Wallingford, PA / Strath Haven) with 9:06 remaining. Bologno closed the gap to 5-2 with 3:02 to play however Montclair scored seven seconds later off the ensuing faceoff with Sean Gilmore (Elmwood Park, NJ, Bergen Catholic) setting up Morrissey for the goal. Zach Schreck got the final score of the half as Montclair went into halftime up 7-2.

The teams traded goals in the third quarter and early in the fourth making the score 9-4 before MSU went on a three-goal run to put the game away. Brian Rickenbach (Ringoes, NJ, Hunterdon Central), Skeels and Joel Van Der Wal (Columbia, NJ, North Warren) each scored for a 12-4 Montclair advantage with 7:40 to play.

Gilmore finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Red Hawks while senior defender Mike Lade (Randolph, NJ, Randolph) also had three and six ground balls in addition to picking up an assist. Robert Snow (Ledgewood, NJ, Roxbury) had three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Montalbano (Matawan, NJ / Old Bridge) had nine saves for Stockton which got 14-of-19 faceoffs and 11 ground balls from sophomore Eugene Isola (Monroe Township, NJ / Christian Brothers Academy).
