The Game Story:
Montclair, NJ – Freshman attack Andrew Scrutchfield (Lewes, DE / Cape Henlopen) scored five goals, all in the first half, as No. 7 Stevens bounced back from its first loss of the season beating Montclair State 15-7 at Sprague Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Alex Hofrichter (Terrence Park, OH / Archbishop Moeller) and Rich Dupras (Hillsborough, NJ / Immaculata) each had three goals while Kevin Rose (Garden City, NJ / Garden City) added a goal and five assists as the Ducks improved to 6-1 overall. Stevens fell to No. 2 Tufts University on Saturday, 14-12.

Freshman attack John Barney (Ridgewood, NJ, Delbarton) had three goals and two assists for the Red Hawks, who dropped to 1-5 with the loss.

Scrutchfield gave Stevens 1-0 lead 2:36 into the game as he scored off an assist from Taylor Brown (Cortland, NY / Cortland). Montclair State evened the game just over two minutes later when Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ, West Essex)tallied an unassisted marker, however Scrutchfield scored seven seconds later as the Ducks grabbed a 2-1 lead with 11:01 left in the opening period.

The goal started a run of six straight by the Stevens, including two from Scrutchfield, the latter coming with 10:24 to go in the second as the Ducks built a 7-1 lead. Barney ended the run for Montclair with a man-up goal midway through but Stevens counted with three more to end the half. Rose set up Dupras for a goal with five ticks remaining as the Ducks led 10-2 at the break.

Brown finished with two goals and an assist for Stevens, which was outshot in the contest, 46-44. Defenseman Matt Marks (Cortland, NY / Cortland) recorded a goal, had three caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Michael Steinhauser (Boonton, NJ / Mountain Lakes) won 10 faceoffs and posted seven ground balls.

Goalkeeper Eric Yando (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker) stopped nine shots in 48-plus minutes before Matthew Deiner (Millstone Township, NJ / Christian Brothers Academy) and Ben Shaffer (Armonk, NY / Byram Hills) made two save apiece in the final 12 minutes.

Mike Corsetto (Kinnelon, NJ, Kinnelon), Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, NJ, Ridge) and Ryan Magner (Mahwah, NJ, Mahwah) each had a goal for MSU with Kenneth Bogert (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) adding two assists, 10 faceoff wins and eight ground balls. Junior Sean Gilmore (Elmwood Park, NJ, Bergen Catholic) forced four turnovers and registered four ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Mark Glander (Vernon, NJ, Vernon Township) had two saves in 30 minutes before giving way to Michael Dorn (Blairstown, NJ, North Warren) who made four in 26:52 of playing time.
