The Game Story:
Montclair , NJ ( 3/11/06 )–Sophomore attackman Bryan Klimchak scored five times and Evan Wehmeyer added three goals as Montclair State won its second straight, defeating Farmingdale State 14-11 in Knickerbocker Conference Men’s Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Dave Armstrong had two goals and four assists as the Red Hawks evened their record at 2-2 overall and in the Knickerbocker Conference. Ryan LaFlare had five goals and assist for the Rams, who fell to 0-3 and dropped their first KLC contest of the year.

The game was also a rematch of last year’s ECAC Division III Metro Championship Game, a game won at Sprague Field by Montclair State , 13-8.

MSU roared out of the gate in the first period building an 8-1 lead. Armstrong score just over three minutes in and Klimchak’s first tally boosted the lead to 2-0 with 10:36 to play in the period. Patrick Eustache got a goal back for Farmingdale, however Klimchak scored twice in a 49-second span and Tyler Meixner scored the first of his two goals to make the score 5-1 with 6:58 left. Wehmeyer extended the lead to five goals and A.J. Bachman’s man-up goal with 3:45 to play made the score 7-1 before Meixner collected his second of the period with 3:18 left as the Red Hawks led 8-3 after one quarter.

In the second period, Farmingdale responded sparked by the play of goalkeeper Kevin Winters, who made seven saves in the quarter. Gianluca Carrabs scored 56 seconds in and LaFlare and Jay Berndt had goals 30 seconds apart as Farmingdale cut the lead to 8-6 with 10:41 left. The Rams then trimmed the deficit to one as LaFlare recorded his second goal at 10:10 to make the score, 8-7. Bachman would end the Farmingdale spurt as he scored with 5:52 remaining as the Red Hawks led 9-7 at halftime.

In the second half, the teams traded goals in the first two minutes. Montclair State then scored three consecutive goals as Klimchak scored with 8:17 left and Wehmeyer’s man-up tally at 5:21 boosted the lead to 12-8. Klimchaknotched his final goal with 3:42 to go in the quarter giving MSU a 13-8 advantage heading into the final period.

Armstrong, Bachman and Meixner each finished with two goals apiece while Bachman also registered two assists. Goalkeeper Dan Cuff, making his first career start for an injured Tom Bowers , had 11 saves, including five in the final quarter to help preserve the victory.

Winters had 18 saves over the final three periods while starter Chris Hardgrove made four stops in the opening period. Carrabs had two goals.

Montclair State held a 48-37 advantage in shots and 42-34 edge in ground balls, including seven by Ed Carswell and six by Meixner. Chris MCaleavey had five ground balls and nine faceoff wins for the Rams.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 as it travels to Manhattanville for a 7:00 pm Knickerbocker Conference matchup with the Valiants.
