The Game Story:
NEWTON, Mass. (April 25, 2007) – Sophomore attackman Leo Shidler (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) and junior midfielder Alex Champagne (East Greenwich, R.I./Rocky Hill/Ohio Wesleyan) netted hat tricks to lead the Mount Ida College men’s lacrosse team to an 11-2 triumph over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this afternoon in non-conference action at the Mount Ida Athletic Stadium. With the win, the Mustangs boosted their winning streak to ten straight games.

Champagne added an assist to lead all scorers with four points. Mount Ida also received solid production from sophomore attacker Brett Conley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield), who notched three points on a goal and two helpers.

UMass Dartmouth’s goals were scored by senior midfielder Mark LaPointe (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) and sophomore midfielder Matt Swirbalus (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth).

The Mustangs dominated play from the outset outscoring the Corsairs 7-1 before the break. They added four second half markers to put things away.

Freshman goalkeeper Matt Vernik (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) turned in a solid effort between the pipes for Mount Ida. The rookie stopped ten shots en route to his fourth win of the 2007 campaign. His counterpart senior Craig Britton (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) finished with four saves.

The Corsairs outshot the hosts 31-21 and owned a 9-8 edge on face-offs. They picked up 33 ground balls, while Mount Ida came away with 31. Neither team found the net in their three extra-man opportunities.

Mount Ida (11-3, 7-0 NAC) will host a North Atlantic Conference Tournament Semifinal round tilt versus Thomas College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Mustangs, who own a perfect 29-0 lifetime record versus league foes, will be looking for their fourth consecutive NAC Tournament crown.

UMass Dartmouth (6-7, 1-4 LEC) will also be in action on Saturday, when it hosts Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University in its regular season finale at 1:00 p.m.
