Nazareth vs. Adelphi

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 22, 2003) -- Adelphi junior Kim Delfs scored off a pass from Mike Bartolillo with 27 seconds left in overtime Saturday to lift the visiting Panthers to a 12-11 victory over Nazareth in men's lacrosse.

The goal was the third of the day for Delfs, who also added two assists as the Panthers, ranked seventh nationally in Division II, evened their record at 1-1. Nazareth, ranked ninth nationally in Division III, is 2-2 overall.

The Golden Flyers had built a 7-3 lead in the first half as sophomore Bryan Coon scored three of his four goals. Adelphi, however, scored three times in the final 1:01 of the first half to close within 7-6. Adelphi added three more goals in the third quarter to carry a two-goal lead, 10-8, into the final 15 minutes. Goals by Coon and Justin Wahl pulled Nazareth even at 10-10, then Bartolillo put Adelphi back in front with 11:20 left.

Wahl added the tying goal, his fifth of the game, with 4:29 left to send the game into overtime. Both teams had opportunities in the extra period, but the Panthers finally converted, giving them their second straight overtime win over the Golden Flyers. Adelphi won last year, 10-9, on a goal by David Toy.

Wahl had two assists for Nazareth in addition to his five goals. Coon added four goals and one assist. Adelphi got three goals each from Delfs, Toy, and Bartolillo. Nazareth goal Don Green made 11 saves and Mike Miller had 17 saves for Adelphi.

Nazareth plays again Friday at Skidmore at 4 p.m.
