| ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 3, 2004) -- Host Nazareth built an 8-0 lead in the
opening quarter Saturday and went on to take a 15-9 victory over Division
II rival C.W. Post in men's lacrosse.
The Golden Flyers, coming off a disappointing overtime loss at Cortland Wednesday, came back strong against the Pioneers. Senior attackman Brandon Brown (Ithaca HS/Ithaca, NY) led Nazareth with a career-high five goals. Junior attackman Bryan Coon (Webster HS/Webster, NY) added three goals and two assists. Senior attackman Justin Wahl (Penn Yan Academy/Penn Yan, NY) and sophomore attackman Bryan Adams (Guilderland HS/Schenectady, NY) each scored two goals. Brown scored three of his goals in the opening quarter as Nazareth took control early. Adams, Wahl, Coon, freshman Kevin Gibbons (Bishop Brady HS/Canterbury, NH) and sophomore midfielder Chris Balash (Auburn HS/Auburn, NY) also scored as Nazareth built an 8-0 lead. Nazareth's Brian Navarra (Watertown HS/Watertown, NY) scored the first goal of the second quarter to make it 9-0, before C.W. Post got on the board on a goal by Ryan Graham. The Pioneers scored three more times in the second quarter and Coon added his second goal of the game for Nazareth to make the score 10-4 at halftime. Senior attackman Brian Gold (East Meadow HS/East Meadow, NY) scored three times for the Pioneers, including a goal early in the fourth quarter that brought Post back to within 12-8. Brown, Coon, and Wahl each scored for Nazareth in the fourth quarter to enable the Golden Flyers to preserve the victory. Nazareth held a 43-31 advantage in shots and a 60-56 edge in ground balls. Sophomore goalie Alex Civalier (Penfield HS/Penfield, NY) made seven saves. Nazareth (6-1 overall) visits Utica Wednesday at 4 p.m. |
