The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 12, 2006) -- Fifth-ranked Nazareth had little difficulty recording its eighth straight men's lacrosse victory Wednesday as the Golden Flyers scored early and often in a 19-1 victory over visiting Alfred at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The Golden Flyers, ranked fifth nationally in Division III, improved to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8 Conference. Alfred is 1-7 and 0-5. The Golden Flyers host RIT Saturday in a key conference showdown at Golden Flyer Stadium at 1 p.m.

Nazareth scored the game's first 18 goals before Alfred scored with 3:00 to play. Senior Chris Balash scored three goals and junior Ryan Hotaling added two goals and four assists as Nazareth dominated from start to finish.

Senior Jeff Mangini (pictured), a long-stick midfielder, also scored the first two goals of his career for the Golden Flyers. Freshman attackman Jim Wall also scored his first career goal.

Hotaling had a goal and three assists as Nazareth scored six times in the opening quarter. Mangini's first goal came in the second quarter off an assist from Hotaling. Balash also scored twice in the second quarter as Nazareth upped it lead to 11-0.

Wall, who also contributed two assists, scored his goal off an assist from Jordan Hirsch with 2:49 left in the third quarter. Hirsch also assisted on Mangini's second goal of the game with :12 left in the quarter.

Jim Schultheis, Kyle Purcell and Steve Cutia scored for Nazareth in the fourth quarter, but Alfred avoided the shutout on an unassisted goal by Adam Griffin with 3:00 to play.

Cutia and Schultheis each finished with two goals. Hirsch had three assists in addition to one goal. Chad Amidon, Conor O'Keefe, Greg Kanellis and Kevin Kimball also had goals.

Nazareth had a commanding 55-19 edge in shots and won 16 of 23 face-offs. Senior Brian Gaffney won 9 of 14 draws and freshman dave Romano went 7 for 9.
