|OCHESTER, N.Y. (April 2, 2003) -- Cortland made a 5-0 run to overcome an
early 1-0 deficit and defeat Nazareth 6-4 in men's lacrosse on Wednesday
Chris Balash scored the first goal of the game for Nazareth at 6:08 in the first
period to put the Golden Flyers up 1-0. Kyle Lambert scored the first of his 2
goals at 3:22 to even the score at 1-1. An extra-man goal by Drew Hyatt (2
goals, 1 assist) with 31 seconds remaining in the first quarter put Cortland up for
Defense was the story of the game for Cortland, led by Steve Feltmann's 14
saves. After Nazareth's 1st goal, the Golden Flyers were held off the scoreboard
until T.J. Rogers scored with 59 seconds remainging in the 3rd quarter to make
the score 5-2. Lambert scored his second at 10:43 of the fourth quarter. Jason
Mordaci and Bryan Coon each scored for the Golden Flyers late in the game to
make the final score 6-4.
For the game, Nazareth outshot Cortland 39-18, including 18-3 in the fourth
quarter. Jim Quackenbush (pictured) dominated the faceoffs, winning 12 of 13
for the Golden Flyers.
Cortland, ranked 7th in Division III, improves to 5-2 on the season. Mike Bryant
scored a goal and an assist, Matt O'Connell scored a goal, and Adam Hughes had
2 assists for the Red Dragons.
Nazareth, ranked 13th in Division III, falls to 3-3 on the season. Don Green made
4 savves in goal for the Golden Flyers, who next play Saturday at C.W. Post at
