Nazareth vs. Elmira

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth attackmen Mark DeCirce and Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar each scored four goals and C.J. Estes contributed one goal and four assists Friday as host Nazareth snapped a three-game men's lacrosse losing streak with a 28-7 victory over Elmira.

Sixteen different players scored goals for the Golden Flyers, who were playing their first Empire 8 conference game. Nazareth improves to 4-3 overall. The Soaring Eagles drop to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in conference games.

DeCirce put the Golden Flyers on the board with a goal 2:15 into the game after receiving a pass from Jacobs-Ferderbar. After Jacobs-Ferderbar scored an unassisted goal to give Nazareth a 2-0 lead, Elmira's TJ White scored with 9:36 left in the first quarter to cut Nazareth's lead to 2-1. Junior Mike Cummings, freshman C.J. Estes and sophomore Brendan Byer each scored to stretch the Golden Flyers' lead to 5-1.

Elmira's Rick Acorn opened the second quarter with a goal to cut the Soaring Eagles deficit to 5-2, but Nazareth scored eight goals in under four minutes to take a 13-2 lead with 4:48 remaining in the first half to take control of the game.

The Golden Flyers also put a string of six consecutive goals together spanning the final 1:43 of the second quarter and first 10:39 of the third quarter. Junior Joe Trinca scored his first career goal to cap the scoring run and give Nazareth a commanding 19-3 advantage. Sophomore Justin Flessa also recorded his first career goal during the scoring run.

The Golden Flyers tallied nine additional goals in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Adam Nauerth recorded all three of his goals during the final period while junior Cory Bottiglier and freshman Dylan Eder scored the first goals of their respective collegiate careers.

Junior Erinn O'Hara, and sophomore Doug Milano-Johnson and Byer each finished with two goals for Nazareth and Scott Castle, Mike Cummings, Sean Dennison, and Chris Law each had one goal. John Manion finished with three assists while DeCirce and Gringeri each added two assists.

The Golden Flyers held a 64-28 advantage in shots and a 67-29 advantage in collecting ground balls. Nazareth was also 4-8 with extra man opportunities and held Elmira to 1-6 with the extra man.

Junior Todd Dermody played the first half in goal for the Golden Flyers and recorded two saves for the victory. Freshmen Tom Lynam and Grant Williams each played 15 minutes in the second half and recorded four saves and two saves respectively.

Nazareth hosts Utica April 1st in the Golden Flyers next game.
