Nazareth vs. Geneseo State

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Geneseo's Jeff Watson scored 11 seconds into overtime to lift the Blue Knights to the 9-8 victory over Nazareth in a non-conference men's lacrosse game played at Monroe Community College. Sophomore C.J. Estes finished the game with three goals and one assist for the Golden Flyers.

Following the loss, 14th-ranked Nazareth drops to 1-1 overall. The 15th-ranked Blue Knights remain undefeated with a 2-0 overall record.

Geneseo surged to a 4-0 lead in the first 10:55 as Graig Lange, Bobby King, Brendan Kurpis, and Evan Bryant each tallied one goal. Senior Erinn O'Hara put the Golden Flyers on the board 4:32 into the second quarter with an unassisted goal. About six minutes later, junior Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar cut Nazareth's deficit to two goals with an unassisted goal.

After Lange recorded his second goal of the game to put the Blue Knights up 5-2, with 4:09 remaining in the second quarter, junior Scott Castle scored back-to-back goals to cut the score to 5-4 at halftime. Castle's first goal was assisted by Jacobs-Ferderbar as the Golden Flyers converted on a man-up opportunity. Castle's second goal was assisted by O'Hara with just 19 seconds remaining in the period.

Nazareth opened the second half with two goals in the first 3:19 to take its first lead of the game. Estes tallied an unassisted goal to tie the score, then assisted on senior Mark DeCirce's go-ahead goal. The Blue Knights and Golden Flyers traded the next three goals to go into the fourth quarter tied at 7-7. Estes tallied Nazareth's goal after he received a pass from DeCirce. Lange and Kurpis each added a goal for Geneseo.

Tim Hayden scored to put the Blue Knights ahead just 53 seconds into the fourth quarter. Estes scored his third goal of the game to tie the score, 8-8, with 10:47 remaining in regulation. Geneseo's goalkeeper, Dennis Costanza, saved a last-second shot by Estes as the fourth quarter expired.

Watson's overtime goal was made possible by a faceoff victory by Erik Baranowski. After controlling the faceoff, Watson had a break-away and fired a shot into the top-left corner of the net. Baranowski finished the game 14-20 on faceoffs.

The Blue Knights finished with a 33-31 edge in ground balls, but the Golden Flyers outshot Geneseo 41-26. Costanza finished with 15 saves for the Blue Knights while senior Todd Dermody recorded eight saves for Nazareth. The Golden Flyers' defense held Geneseo to 15-28 on clear attempts while Nazareth finished 14-17.

The Golden Flyers host Oswego in a non-conference game Saturday, March 13th, at 1 p.m.
