| ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Tenth-ranked Nazareth College broke open a close game Saturday by
scoring nine times in the third quarter and went on to defeat eighth-ranked Hartwick College in
men's lacrosse, 21-12.
The Golden Flyers improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference with their third straight win. Hartwick fell to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8. Leading 7-5 at halftime, the Golden Flyers scored five of the first six goals to open the third quarter to take a commanding 12-6 lead. Senior midfielder Nick Miller (Fayetteville-Manlius HS/Manlius, NY) and senior attackman Chad Kuczek (Auburn HS/Auburn, NY) scored just 18 seconds apart to give Nazareth a 9-5 lead. Then after Bill Luzzi (Valley Stream HS/Valley Stream, NY) scored for Hartwick, Nazareth got two goals from Josh Lewis (Corning East HS/Corning, NY) and another from Kuczek.. Brian Roden (Bethpage HS/Bethpage, NY) also scored twice before the quarter ended and P.J. Rosecrans (Niskayuna HS/Schenectady, NY) and Jarod Koopman (Waterloo HS/Waterloo, NY) also delivered goals as the Golden Flyers led 16-8 after three quarters. Lewis and Roden each finished with three goals and two assists. Miller had three goals and one assist. Koopman had two goals and three assists, while Kuczek, Rosecrans, and Jeff Monroe (Fayetteville-Manlius HS/Fayetteville, NY) all scored twice. Junior goalie Mike DArmetko (B.C. High/Milton, MA) had a career-high 16 saves. For Hartwick, senior attackman Ross Pino (Webster HS/Rochester, NY) had three goals and two assists and senior midfielder Ryan Hoffmeister (St. Sebastian's HS/Norfolk, MA) also scored three times. |
