Nazareth vs. Oswego State

The Game Story:

Oswego outscored Nazareth 8-5 in the second half, but the Golden Flyers held on to a four goal halftime lead to defeat the Lakers 15-14 in men's lacrosse on Tuesday night.

The Golden Flyers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with Jim Quackenbush, T.J. Rogers, and Bryan Adams scoring goals in the first one minuite and eleven seconds of the game. The Lakers answered back with three straight goals of their own with one scored by Scott Ferguson and two by Jeff Cottet to make the score 3-3 with 11:25 remaining in the first quarter. Each team would add one more to make the score 4-4 after one quarter.

The second quarter belonged to Nazareth, with the Golden Flyers outscoring the Lakers 6-2 to take a 10-6 lead into halftime. Bryan Coon scored four of his team-high five goals for Nazareth in a row over the second and the third quarter to extend the Nazareth lead to 12-6 with 8:25 remaining in the third quarter. Ferguson scored two goals to start a 6-1 Oswego run to cut the Nazareth lead to one goal, 13-12 with 13:56 to play.

Jason Mordaci scored 2 consecutive goals to put the Golden Flyers up 15-12 with 9:39 left in regulation. Ferguson scored a goal and assisted on a goal by Mike Malecki to make the score 15-14 with 6:57 to play.

Oswego (5-9) were led by Ferguson's 6 goals and 2 assists. The Lakers also recieved 4 goals and an assist from Cottet and 2 goals and an assist from Brian Dautrich. Al Simeone made 17 saves in goal

Coon scored five goals and Mordaci scored four goals to lead the Golden Flyers. Quackenbush scored 2 goals, fielded 13 groundballs, and won 22 of 31 faceoffs. David Graham scored a goal and had 2 assists, and Brandon Brown had 4 assists.

Don Green made 8 saves in goal for the Golden Flyers, who improve to 9-3 overall on the season and are ranked 13th nationally in Division III. Nazareth will host Ithaca in a key Empire 8 matchup on Friday at 5 p.m.
