|The Game Story:|
|ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 4, 2007) -- Senior Ryan Hotaling (pictured) scored four goals Wednesday and senior midfielder Chad Amidon contributed three goals and one assist as host Nazareth won its fourth straight game in men's lacrosse with a 16-7 win over Empire 8 Conference rival Utica.|
Nazareth, ranked ninth nationally in Division III, boosted its overall record to 8-1, including a 2-0 mark in conference games. Utica slipped to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8.
Nazareth had a 3-2 lead after one quarter, then broke the game open in the second quarter by outscoring Utica 7-1. The Golden Flyers scored five more goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth.
Kevin Kimball's unassisted goal gave Nazareth a 1-0 advantage early and Jordan Hirsch followed with a transition goal off an assist from long-stick Mitchel Frey, who earned his first collegiate point. Hotaling's first goal came unassisted with 5:28 to play in the quarter.
In the secone quarter, Hotaling and Amidon each scored twice and Hirsch added his second goal of the game. Sophomore Alex Cole netted his first college goal off a pass from Mark Kanellis and Aaron Civalier also scored in the 15-minute stretch as Nazareth led 10-3 at the break.
After Utica's Dave O'Connell opened the second half with an unassisted goal, Nazareth scored four straight goals -- Amidon, Hotaling, Erinn O'Hara and Jim Wall -- to erase any comeback thoughts. Matt Aloi also scored for Nazareth in the closing minute of the quarter and Conor O'Keefe scored an extra-man goal in the fourth.
Nazareth had a 45-32 shooting advantage and a 48-41 edge in ground balls. All five goalies played for Nazareth with starter Pat Mullin making four saves in 18 minutes of action.
Steve Schoen led Utica with two goals and one assist. O'Connell had one goal and one assist.
Nazareth plays its next three games on the road, starting with Saturday's Empire 8 Conference game at Hartwick at 1 p.m.
