Neumann vs. Alvernia

The Game Story:
The Neumann College Knights gained their first men's lacrosse victory of the season today when they defeated the Alvernia Crusaders by a score of 16-7. Playing in their second conference game of the year the Knights looked to even their conference record. The Knights used a balance attack to pace themselves to victory.

The teams played evenly through the first quarter with Neumann taking a 4-3 lead to end the first. Sophomore Matt Toth tallied three of Neumann's goals. Freshmen Justin Mailloux assisted on one of those goals. Alvernia saw scores come from Chris Baker, Benjamin Stidham and Tom Novak.

In the second quarter the Knights' offensive and defensive units came alive. Neumann tallied five more goals while holding Alvernia to one goal to take a 9 - 4 lead at intermission. Toth added two more goals while sophomore Kyle Sheckler added his second goal of the game. Also scoring in the quarter was Mailloux and sophomore Steve Lis. Alvernia's lone goal was scored by Baker.

In the third quarter the Knights outscored the Crusaders 4-2 taking a commanding 13-6. Neumann sophomore Kyle Gardner scored three of the four goals in the quarter. While Gardner was scoring, Toth was assisting. Toth assisted on two goals in the quarter teaming up with Gardner once and senior Jason Kahn. Jeff Bohler and Dan Dempsey both scored for Alvernia.

The fourth quarter saw action at both ends of the field. Neumann scored twice while Alvernia scored once. When the dust had settled the Knights were victorious winning 16-7. The Knights improve to 1-1 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference and 1-7 overall. Alvernia falls to 1-1 in conference play and 1-5 overall. The Knights will travel to Scranton, Pa. this weekend to take on their next conference opponent, Marywood University.
