| THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 6, 2011) – The Maritime men's lacrosse defeated visiting Richard Stockton College, 12-9, Wednesday night in Skyline Conference action at Reinhart Field. The win improved the Privateers record to 5-6 overall, including a perfect 3-0 mark in Skyline action, while the Ospreys fall to 1-7 (0-1 Skyline). Maritime was led by senior Michael Hanratty (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial), who recorded a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. He also helped out defensively, causing four turnovers and picking up three groundballs. Seniors Seth Collins (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) and Jesse deBoer (Ridge, N.Y./McGann Mercy) each registered two goals and one assist, apiece, while classmate Alexander Korb (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and junior John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) each had a goal and an assist. Defensively, senior Steven Tonn (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and TJ Beaudette (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) both had a team-high four groundballs, as did classmate Keith Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), who stopped seven shots to earn the victory. Sophomore Matt Messina and senior Andrew Marklin (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) both scored, along with sophomore Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) had a goal on a beauty of a shot from a long distance away. Sophomore Joe Villareal picked up an assist on Messina's goal, which was eight seconds after one of Hanratty's in the third quarter. The Ospreys were led by senior Brent Effenberger, who scored a team-high three goals. Freshman Cal Sebor led all players with six ground balls. In goal, sophomore Tim Wolcott recorded 12 saves in the losing effort. |
