|Throggs Neck, NY – Freshman attack Lawrence Montreuil (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) scored four goals and had two assists to lead the Privateers of Maritime College to a 19-5 victory over Alvernia College in the Privateers season opener of men’s lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY.|
Maritime struck hard and struck quick, scoring the game’s first six goals before giving up two heading into the half. Then they opened up the second half by scoring 8 unanswered goals, all in the third period. Montreuil and sophomore attack Max Ferguson (Rockville Centre, NY/Chaminade) proved to be an interesting duo, each providing the other with two goals. Ferguson finished the day with three goals and two assists.
Junior midfielder Tom Novak (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) scored four of the Crusaders five goals, while sophomore attack Tom Fraker (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) provided the other goal.
Sophomore keeper Joseph Fasano (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) got the start in net for the Privateers, allowing just two goals and stopping 30 shots in 45 minutes of action. Senior Tim O’Hara (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) relived Fasano in the fourth period, making six saves and giving up three goals. Freshman keeper Mark Lenahan (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) made 13 saves in net for the Crusaders.
The Privateers return to action on Wednesday, March 7 for the second game of a three-game home stand, when they host the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent for their first Skyline Conference game of the season. Last season, the Privateers defeated the Dolphins 17-8 and currently lead the all-time series 3-0. Wednesday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
