March 18, 2008
The Game Story:
THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's lacrosse team used a 6-1 third quarter to secure their 4th win of the season; a 15-6 victory over the visiting Colonials of Western Connecticut. The Colonials dropped to 3-3 on the season, while Maritime improved to 4-1.

The first quarter was a defensive battle with both teams trading shots for saves. Maritime took 4 shots on goal, all saved by Kyle Wood, while the Colonials took 8 shots on goal, of which 7 were saved by Colin Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill). That one goal was scored with 13 seconds to go, following a well planned timeout by the visitors.

The second quarter was much more offensive, with 10 total goals scored. Western Connecticut scored the first goal in the second to grab a 2-0 lead, but it was short lived. Maritime scored three goals in just over a minute to take the lead for good with 12:28 to go in the second. Even though the Colonials scored the final two of the half, the Privateers took a 6-5 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point in the game, with Maritime scoring 6 goals and allowing only 1. Gallagher was the force behind the defense, stopping 6 shots in the quarter, and 8 more in the 4th quarter. Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) was the offense catalyst, scoring three of his four goals in the second half, while assisting on another.

For the game, Donald Toby led the team with 4 goals and two assists, followed by Lawrence Montreuil (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park) with 3 scores and 3 assists. Stephen Doherty (Yorktown, NY/Lakeland), Alex Rosero (Bellport, NY/Bellport), and Alex Korb (Islip, NY/Islip) each scored twice.

In net, Gallagher finished the game with an impressive 23 saves. His counterpart, Kyle Wood, finished with 11.

The Privateers will be in action again at home on Thursday against Wells College. Game time is scheduled for 6:00PM.
