New York Maritime vs. Wells

The Game Story:
THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's lacrosse team won their 5th game of the season to move to 5-1 and remain perfect at home. The 19-2 victory is the largest margin of victory since the opening game of the season. Wells College dropped to 0-3 on the season.

The Privateers outplayed the Express from the opening face-off, notching their first score less than two minutes into the game. Maritime scored all 4 goals of the first quarter, out-shooting the Express 14-5. The second quarter was much of the same, with Maritime scoring 6 times, and Wells once. The Privateers took 3 man-up opportunities in the quarter, and cashed in on 2 of them. Defensively, Keith Messina (West Sayville, NY/West Sayville) recorded 5 saves in the second, and 9 for the game.

The second half proved no different than the first, with Maritime outscoring their opponent 9-1. Back-up goalkeeper Kevin May (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic) saw more than 16 minutes in net, saving 3 shots. Ryan Korb (Islip, NY/Islip) took a pass from twin brother Alex Korb (Islip, NY/Islip) and sent it to the back of the net on the first goal of the final quarter. Alex would later score his third goal of the evening.

Alex Korb and Dan Roach (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood) each scored 3 to pace the Privateers. Donald Toby (Oceanside, Oceanside) scored twice and assisted twice, while 11 other Privateers scored single goals. The Privateers outshot the Express 58-21, picked up 19 more groundballs (60-41), and won 15-24 face-offs.

The Privateers will return to play again on Wednesday March 26th, when they play host to Oneonta at 7:00PM.
