| THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 14, 2012) – The Maritime men’s lacrosse hadn’t scored in double figures all season long before defeating Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary by the convincing score of 22-9 Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field for an important conference victory late in the season. The Privateers improve to 3-11 (2-2 Skyline) with the victory, while the Blue Knights fall to 7-7 (1-3 Skyline). Maritime was led by freshman Charles Kuhn (North Babylon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), who led all players with seven points on four goals and three assists. The rookie more-than doubled his prior output of points from all season long, which was five (1G, 4A). He scored the first three goals for the Privateers and then had a hand in four of the next six, scoring one and assisting on three of them. All seven of his points came before 11:25 of the second quarter. Two other players had four-point days for Maritime, as sophomores James D’Amico (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) and Brennen Siele (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) both recorded hat-tricks to go along with one assist. Junior Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), sophomore Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Planview JFK) and freshman Robert Sterbens (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) all had two goals apiece, while six other Privateers recorded one goal each. Junior midfielder Joe Villarreal (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) had a game-high nine groundballs after going 10-for-15 from the faceoff-X, while sophomore Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) had six GBs and won 10-of-13 faceoffs. Senior defender Steven Tonn (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) led Maritime with two caused turnovers. |
