Norwich vs. Castleton State

The Game Story:
NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Norwich University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference loss to the Spartans of Castleton State College by a score of 19-6 on Monday afternoon.

With the loss, the Cadets see a 12-game unbeaten streak come to a close as they fall to 12-4 on the season, while the Spartans win their eighth-straight and improve to 13-3.

Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.), Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) and Connor Roberts (St. Albans, Vt.) all totaled three goals for the Cadets, while Arron Canarelli (New Hartford, N.Y.), Ryan McCarthy (Medford, Mass.) and Timothy Seibert (Ephrata, Pa.) all added a goal apiece.

The Spartans saw six goals and three assists by Zach Davidson. Spencer Hunt added three goals and three assists, while Ken Bourneauf added two goals.

Norwich's Canarelli opened the game with his tenth goal of the season on an assist by Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.), but the Spartans responded with back-to-back first-quarter goals to take the 2-1 lead. Roberts scored with 2:58 to play in the quarter to even the score and send the 2-2 score into the second quarter.

Castleton opened the second frame with five-straight goals to take the 7-2 lead before the Cadets would get on the board. Thomas scored with 2:53 to play in the half before Hunt added one for the Spartans and Roberts scored again for Norwich to set the score at 8-4 at halftime.

The second half saw Castleton and Norwich trade a pair of goals each through the first 11 minutes of the third quarter, but the Spartans scored twice 21 seconds apart at 1:41 and 1:20 to hold the 12-6 advantage with 15 minutes of action left to play. A 4-3 scoring advantage in the final quarter sealed the 16-9 final.

Norwich goaltender Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) recorded 10 saves in 52 minutes of work. Castleton netminder Peter Latulippe recorded six saves in the win as the Spartans held a 46-32 advantage in total shots.

Nate Fortezzo (Branford, Conn.) and Andrew Bracy (Carthage, N.Y.) combined to win 50 percent of the 28 face-offs on the afternoon, while Castleton's Ben Roberts and Zac Devoid combined to win 14 face-offs for the Spartans as well.

The Cadets return to action next Wednesday, May 8 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Tournament seeds will be announced on Sunday, May 5. The Spartans will play in the semifinal of the North Atlantic Conference tournament on Wednesday, May 1.
