| NASHUA, N.H. - Scott Pearce scored four goals, and Tyler Woods added two goals and an assist to help lead the Norwich University men's lacrosse to a 10-6 victory over Daniel Webster in a non-league contest on Monday afternoon at Eagle Field. The Cadets, who have won two of their last three games after beginning its 2008 campaign 0-5, improve to 2-6 on the season. The Eagles, meanwhile, fall to 3-5 on the year. Norwich overcame a 3-0 second quarter deficit, took a three-goal lead in the third quarter and then pulled away with three more scores over the final 4:45. Nick Bakos made seven saves in the Norwich goal to earn the win between the pipes. Daniel Webster built a 3-0 lead over the first 20 minutes of the contest, scoring once in the first quarter and twice more in the first 4:18 of the second stanza. Norwich, which couldn't find its offense early on, finally came to life as John Lighthall and C.J. Hamilton tallied goals within a span of 1:57, and Pearce tied it with his first marker of the day with 2:05 to go play in the opening half. The Eagles reclaimed the lead at 4-3 with 50 seconds to go in the frame, but Woods broke through with his first goal of the contest 34 seconds later and the teams were tied at 4-4 at the break. Pearce, Woods and Kyle Marzeoti all notched third quarter goals to help the Cadets build a 7-4 lead heading into the final quarter. Daniel Webster made one final rally, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to pull to within 7-6 at the 10:40 mark. The Eagles could not score the equalizer, though, and Norwich finally pulled away for good as Pearce notched a power play score with 4:45 left and Woods followed with his second of the day just about one minute later. Pearce closed out the scoring with 2:39 left. Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, April 16, when the Cadets travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on Pilgrim League foe MIT at 4 p.m. |
