The Game Story:
Oberlin, Ohio – The visiting St. Vincent College Bearcats used a big third quarter to get past the Oberlin College men’s lacrosse team 19-9 on Tuesday night at Fred Shults Field.

Alex Jacobs led the Yeomen with three goals, while also winning 6-of-11 face-offs. Senior Jesse Kane scooped a game-high 10 ground balls to go along with one score. Yeomen goalie Jon Weisburst also got in the mix with his first collegiate score as he took the ball coast-to-coast to find the back of the cage.

After a tightly contested first half that saw Yeomen trail by just four, 8-4, the Bearcats came out firing in the third period to score eight goals and effectively put the game out of reach.

Rookie Dylan Holmes would notch the game’s first goal, but St. Vincent responded with a 6-0 spurt before Jacobs could close the opening frame with back-to-back scores.

Defense dominated the second period as SVC scored just twice, while Nick Thypin-Bermeo snuck one in for Oberlin.

Kane and Jacobs tried to stop the third quarter bleeding by a scoring a goal apiece, and Theo Anthony, Weisburst and Rob Bond would all score in the fourth, but it was too little too late for the Yeomen.

Oberlin won the face-off battle 17-14 and were close on ground balls 55-45. However, the Yeomen were just 11-of-24 on clear attempts and were out-shot 61-35.

Weisburst, who played 49:45 totaled 14 saves and fellow first-year Glen Gerbush made six stops over the final 10:15.

The Yeomen will play their final home game of the season on Saturday when Carthage comes to town. The opening face-off is set for 1 p.m. Fans should note that the game will be played a Savage Stadium due to track and field taking place this weekend at the Robert Kahn Track.
