goals during a 3-0 run that ended the first half and helped Ohio Wesleyan
break open a non-conference win over Colorado College on Saturday at Selby
Field.
The Battling Bishops led, 3-0, after the first quarter on goals by senior midfielder Andy Rowe (Alpharetta, Ga./Penfield (N.Y.)), senior midfielder Michael Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) and junior defenseman Austin Vandeveer (Omaha, Neb./Trinity-Pawling (N.Y.)). Colorado College closed to within 2 goals on 3 occasions during the second quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with a goal each time. The Bishops took advantage of 3 Tiger penalties during the period, scoring on all 3 man-up opportunities. After the Tigers came within 5-3, Schlegel assisted senior attacker Frank Bedford (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) to make it 6-3, and after senior midfielder Michael Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored for a 7-3 lead, Schlegel got the ball after a Tiger turnover and found freshman attacker Jared Law (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) for a goal with :01 on the clock for an 8-3 halftime lead. Long and Bedford led the Bishops with 5 goals apiece, while Schlegel finished with 2 goals and 4 assists. Freshman midfielder Jud Brown (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore midfielder Eliot Weiner (Franklin, Mich.) scored 2 goals each for CC. Sophomore Paul McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had 13 saves and Read Allen (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst) was not tested in the Bishop goal. Colorado College junior Mike Penn (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) had 8 saves in the Tiger goal. |
