March 29, 2003
The Game Story:
Senior midfielder Frank Bedford (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) scored twice during a 4-0 run and Ohio Wesleyan went on to knock off traditional rival Denison in the Battling Bishops' North Coast Athletic Conference opener on Saturday at Selby Field.

Bedford scored in the closing seconds of the first quarter to break a 1-1 tie and fed senior midfielder Michael Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) for a 3-1 Bishop lead early in the second, but Denison answered to tie the game at 3-3 on goals by Thomas Moschos (Worcester, Mass./St. Marks) and Kevin Sullivan (Timonium, Md./Boys Latin).

Ohio Wesleyan went ahead to stay on a goal by sophomore attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) less than a minute after Denison had tied the game at 3-3. Junior defenseman Austin Vandeveer (Omaha, Neb./Trinity Pawling) followed with a transition goal before Bedford scored goals :24 seconds apart, the latter with 1:14 left in the first half, to give the Bishops a 7-3 lead at the intermission.

Bedford scored again midway through the third quarter to hike the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 10-4. Denison followed with 3 straight goals to close within 10-7 early in the fourth quarter, but once again it was Bedford on the spot for Ohio Wesleyan.

Bedford scored a man-up goal with 8:25 left in the game, ending the Big Red run and giving the Bishops an 11-7 lead with 8:25 to play.

Bedford led the Bishops with 6 goals and an assist, while Schlegel finished with 3 goals. Gregory Mavraganis led Denison with 3 goals and Moschos had 2 goals.
