|The Game Story:|
|Taylor Brown scored 3 goals and Tyler Montgomery added 2 as Springfield jumped to a 7-0 lead and held off a furious Ohio Wesleyan rally to defeat the Bishops in non-conference action on Wednesday at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.|
The Pride got on the scoreboard on Jake Beebe's goal in the first minute of the game and made it 2-0 on Montgomery's goal less than a minute later. Montgomery added a goal midway through the period and Brown scored for a 4-0 Pride lead.
Springfield struck quickly again at the start of the second quarter, with Brown scoring in the first minute of the period and Adam Toutain adding another goal in less than a minute. Brown's goal with 9:28 left in the first half gave the Pride a 7-0 lead.
Ohio Wesleyan got back in the game with scores by sophomore midfielder Harrison Iuliano (Mendham, N.J./Blair Academy), senior attacker Jarred Law (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) and sophomore midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) as the Bishops closed to within 7-3 at halftime.
Aided by a pair of goals from Beebe, Springfield stretched its lead to 10-4 after three quarters.
Iuliano scored an unassisted goal in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, but Springfield answered with a score by Toutain.
The Bishop defense clamped down from there, and Ohio Wesleyan reeled off scores by freshman attacker Eric Turner (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), Law, sophomore attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) and junior attacker John Kingston (Huntington, N.Y.) to close to within 11-9 with 2:39 remaining. The Bishops had a chance to slice the margin to a single goal, but Law's shot hit the pipe and caromed away with about 1:30 to play.
Iuliano and Law each contributed 2 goals and an assist to the Ohio Wesleyan offense.
Brown finished with 4 goals and Beebe scored 3 goals for Springfield.
Freshman Alex Crawford (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter) made 18 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Kyle Cloutier had 13 saves for Springfield
