| The Game Story: | |||||
| Senior attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) scored 3 straight goals to cap a 5-0 third-quarter run that lifted 17th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan over 8th-ranked Stevens Tech in non-conference action on Saturday at Selby Field. Mark Bielicky had scored in the first minute of play to give the Ducks an early lead, but Ohio Wesleyan came back with 4 straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. Schlegel contributed a goal and an assist during that Ohio Wesleyan run. The Ducks came back to tie the game at halftime, with Patrick Bailey contributing a goal and an assist during Stevens’ 3-0 spurt to close out the half. Ohio Wesleyan outscored Stevens 5-0 during the third quarter. Freshman midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) scored in the first minute of the quarter to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and sophomore attacker Brian McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) followed with a goal to make it 7-5. Just 33 seconds later, Schlegel scored the first of his 3 straight goals, then added 2 more in a span of 30 seconds late in the quarter to build the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 10-5. Stevens Tech rallied in the fourth quarter, getting scores from Bailey and J.R. Oreskovich to come within 11-7, but Schlegel scored one goal and assisted another to keep the game out of reach. Schlegel led the Bishops with 5 goals and 2 assists, while senior midfielder Brian Small (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) added 2 goals. Senior Paul McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had 14 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Bailey led Stevens Tech with 3 goals and an assist, while Bielicky and Oreskovich scored 2 goals apiece.
