| Junior attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) scored 3 goals and senior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) contributed 2 goals and 3 assists as Ohio Wesleyan took an 11-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Mount St. Joseph in a non-conference clash on Wednesday at Selby Field. The Bishops got on the scoreboard in short order when junior midfielder Ricky Scheetz (Dublin/Jerome) won the opening faceoff and found junior midfielder Alex Razzolini (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) for a goal just 10 seconds into the game. Gallagher added a man-up goal exactly a minute later, and junior attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto), Young, and senior attacker Karl Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice) added scores to help the Bishops take a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. Ohio Wesleyan opened the second quarter with a man advantage, and Gallagher capitalized on it, scoring just 22 seconds into the period to stretch the Bishop lead to 6-0. Junior midfielder Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) and Scheetz scored goals less than a minute apart, and Young added another pair of goals less than a minute apart for a 10-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead midway through the second quarter, and Zimmerman and Gallagher scored during the third quarter as the Bishops moved to a 13-0 lead going into the fourth quarter. Neal Barnes put the Lions on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal early in the fourth period. Gallagher led the Bishops with 3 goals and 3 assists, while Young finished with 3 goals and an assist, and Zimmerman added 3 goals. Sophomore Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) recorded 5 saves while blanking the Lions during the first half. Freshman Dan Huckins (Commack, N.Y./Northfield-Mount Hermon (Mass.)) had 5 saves during the third and fourth quarters, and sophomore Frankie Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) made 2 saves during the fourth quarter. Eric Wolery started in goal for Mount St. Joseph and made 23 saves, while Colin McSharer stopped 2 shots during the fourth quarter. |
