| The Game Story: | |||||
| Sophomore midfielder Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) scored 3 straight goals in a span of 46 seconds to break a 3-3 tie and highlight a 10-0 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a non-conference win over Adrian on Wednesday at Selby Field. The Bishops jumped on top early on a score by sophomore midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School), but the Bulldogs evened the game just 19 seconds later on Jeff Ivey's unassisted goal and took a 2-1 lead on a score by Ryan Knautz. After the teams traded goals, the Bishops evened the game at 3-3 on a goal by senior midfielder Trevor Jones (Flanders, N.J./West Morris Mendham) with 5:55 left in the first quarter. Young scored a man-up goal off an assist from senior attacker Harrison Iuliano (Mendham, N.J./Blair Academy) that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 4-3 lead with 3:24 left in the first quarter. He followed with an unassisted goal at the 2:56 mark, and rang up another unassisted goal just 18 seconds after that as Ohio Wesleyan ended the first quarter with a 6-3 lead. Sophomore attacker Gavin Cunningham (Rye, N.Y.) added a pair of goals to open the second-period scoring, and after a man-up goal by Iuliano and a score by junior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), Young finished off the Bishop run with 2 more goals in a span of 34 seconds. Ivey scored off a Brent Simon assist to end the Bishop streak midway through the second period, but Ohio Wesleyan scored 4 of the next 5 goals to take a 15-5 halftime lead, and Young scored twice more in the opening minutes of the third quarter as the Bishops put the game out of reach. Young led the Bishops with 7 goals and 2 assists. Cunningham finished with 3 goals, while Gallagher, Aronoff and sophomore midfielder Ricky Scheetz (Dublin/Jerome) each contributed 2 goals and an assist. Iuliano finished with a goal and 3 assists. Senior Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) stopped 3 shots during the first half in the Ohio Wesleyan goal. Freshman Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) posted 4 saves during his 26-plus minutes of action, freshman Andrew Busweiler (West Islip, N.Y) was not tested during his fourth-quarter stint in goal, and freshman Frankie Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) had 1 save during the final 2-plus minutes. Ivey led the Bulldogs with 3 goals, while Knautz and Matt Gregson scored 2 goals apiece. Eric Lindstrom and Nick DeGroot combined for 10 saves in the Adrian goal. |
