| The Game Story: | |||||
| The Oneonta State men's lacrosse team opened its home portion of the 2005 season with a convincing 12-5 victory against the Alfred University Saxons in non league action. Senior Chad Wagoner (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) led the attack with three goals and two assists including the game-winner in the second period on a man-up situation for Oneonta. The win for Oneonta was its second straight and puts them at 2-1 overall while the Saxons remain win less at 0-3 this spring. Oneonta didn't waste anytime in establishing command of the game as Wagoner scored the first of his three goals on the day just 37 seconds into the opening quarter. The Red Dragons would continue to dominate en route to a 9-0 lead at halftime that included a pair of goals by senior Ryan Henry (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) late in the second quarter. Junior goalie Rick Freud (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) made 11 saves in the quarter, some at point-blank range, to keep the Saxons off the scoreboard. Both teams managed one goal each in the third quarter including Alfred's ice-breaker at the 3:35 mark. Junior Adam Griffin (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) tallied an unassisted goal for the Saxons. With the game out of reach for the visitors they did put together a solid fourth quarter and outscored the hosts 4-2 for the final. Junior Carlo DiRisio (Plattsburgh, NY/Pen Yan) tallied twice including one with a man-up at the 9:57 mark. Freud would finish the game with 21 saves in collecting his second win of the season. Saxon goalie Chris Wszalek (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) took the loss recording 12 saves in the losing effort. Oneonta will be on the road this Thursday when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for a game against the Bombers to be played at Cornell beginning at 1:00 p.m. |
