| Five-Goal Third Leads Oneonta Past Knights March 10, 2007 Oneonta, NY - Despite dominating in nearly every part of the game, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team dropped its season-opener to Oneonta State 11-9 Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights, 0-1 on the season, return to action on Wednesday when they visit Potsdam State. Holding a 4-3 lead early in the second half, the Golden Knights gave up five unanswered goals as Oneonta State gained a lead which it would never relinquish. Clarkson controlled the game in every facet except the scoreboard, holding an overwhelming 48-22 shot advantage, a 36-24 edge in groundballs, and owning a 16-7 lead in faceoffs. Sophomore Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) and junior Jamie Merritt (Ballston Spa, NY) each scored three goals and added an assist to lead Clarkson offensively. Sophomore Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) added a goal and an assist, while sophomore Jon Cathcart (Homer, NY) and freshman Bruce Lee (Albany, NY) each scored a goal. Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville, NY) made seven saves in 28 minutes and Eric Wolery (Cincinnati, NY) added one save in 32 minutes in the Clarkson goal. Nick Murray was impressive in the Red Dragons goal, making 19 saves in 28 shots on goal. |
