| The visiting RIT Tigers scored the final five goals of the game to turn
an 11-9 deficit into a 14-11 win today on the road against Oneonta State.
After a Dave Coughlin (Latham, NY/Shaker) goal at 12:20 of the final quarter
gave Oneonta an 11-9 lead, the Tigers seized the momentum and took control for
the reamaining time. The loss for the Red Dragons drops them to 2-5 overall
while the win for the Tigers raises its record to 3-2 after its third straight
victory. RIT jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter including two goals with the man advantage. Junior attackman Ryan Neward (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) tallied twice for the Tigers in its opening spurt. A goal by junior Pete Monzet (Mahopac, NY/Lakeland-Panas) gave Oneonta its first goal with 3:10 reamining to cut the RIT to four goals, but a goal with seven seconds left in the quarter by the visitors gave them its five-goal lead back at 6-1. The second quarter was all Oneonta as they shutour RIT 6-0 to take a 7-6 halftime lead. In the quarter the Red Dragons converted on three of four man-up opportunities including two goals by Coughlin. Oneonta outshot the Tigers 16-3 in the quarter and took the lead on a goal by freshman Evan Mann (Woodbury, NY/Syosset) with seven second to go. The third quarter was played even with both teams registering three goals each. RIT actually took the lead at 8-7 on consecutive goals by junior Chris Copeland (Webster, NY/Webster) and freshman David Thering (Fairport, NY/Fairport). The lead didn't last long as the Red Dragons stormed back and scored 16 seconds later on a goal by junior James Battaglia (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) with an assist from Mann. With seven secons left in the quarter Vincent Schettino (Holbrook, NYSachem) scored for Oneonta to give them a 10-9 lead entering the fourth. |
