| The Oneonta State men's lacrosse team scored 14 unanswered goals
including nine in the opening quarter en route to a 17-4 run away victory
against the University of Scranton this afternoon. The Red Dragons (2-3)
were led by senior Dan Bakke (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) and junior
Chad Wagoner (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) who each registered five
points. Four different players scored goals for the Royals (0-5) who
managed only 17 shots in the game.
Bakke scored his three goals and had one of his assists in the opening quarter while the Red Dragons' defense held the Royals without a shot during the opening 15 minutes of play. Senior Ryan Henry (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored three goals as well while adding an assist in the game, as the Red Dragons took a 10-0 lead into halftime. The Royals registered its first goal of the game at the 4:31 mark of the third quarter and scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to make the score 14-2 in favor of the hosts. Freshman Dan Stallone (S. Plainfield, NJ/St. Joseph Metuchen) took a pass from sophomore Todd Cuccia (Larchmont, NY/Iona Prep) and one-timed it by Oneonta goalie Mike Louer (Islip, NY/Islip). The final three goals for the visitors were scored by, senior Dennis Mahon (Medford, NJ/St. Joseph's Prep), junior Jonathan Sutter (Media, PA/Penncrest) and freshman Salvatore Peretore (Appalachin, NY/Vestal). The Red Dragons will be back in action this Sunday when they ttravel to the US Merchant Marine Academy for a game beginning at 1:00 p.m. |
