| The Game Story: | |||||
| Freshman Matt Harvey (Bayshore, NY/Islip) scored three first half goals while assisting on a man-up goal in pacing the Oneonta State men's lacrosse team to an overpowering 12-6 victory against Brockport in the SUNYAC opener for both teams. The Red Dragons (7-3/1-0) raced out to an 11-2 halftime lead and then used the clock wisely in the second half to take the win. The loss for the Golden Eagles drops them back to the .500 mark at 4-4 overall. Oneonta struck first at the 11 minute mark of the first period on Harvey's first goal of the game. Junior Neal Campbell (Merrick, NY/Mepham) made a great feed to Harvey who finished strong to give the Red Dragons the early lead. Less than one minute later the Golden Eagles tied the score on an unassisted goal by junior Joe Aquilina (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder). Oneonta then ran off seven unanswered goals to take a commanding 8-1 lead with 10 minutes to go in the second period. Junior Mike Schanz (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) scored a pair of goals during the explosion including a man-down goal. Brockport did out score Oneonta 4-1 in the second half including two man-up goals by sophomores Anthony Ventresca (Syracuse, NY/Henniger) and Kyle Baker (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart). Baker led Brockport with two goals while Ventresca added an assist to his gal to finish with two points in the game. Oneonta will be back in action this Wednesday at Potsdam beginning at 4:00 p.m. |
