| The Oneonta State men's lacrosse tteam scored the final five
goals of the game today en route to picking up an 8-5 come-from-behind
win against visiting Brockport in SUNYAC action. For Oneonta, it was the
first time this season that they were able to overcome a defecit in the
second half and carry through the momentum to win a game. The Red
Dragons have been on the losing side of fourth quarter comebacks this
season that has cost them four games. The win today is the third
straight for Oneonta who is now 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play
while the loss for Brockport drops them to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the
Senior Keith Adler (Seaford, NY/Seaford) scored back-to-back goals to give the Red Dragons a 6-5 lead at the end of three quarters. In the fourth quarter Oneonta was able to control the action while registering two more goals for the final margin of victory.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first eight minutes before senior Dave Coughlin (Latham, NY/Shaker) gave Oneonta a 1-0 lead at 6:24. The Golden Eagles would tie the game at 3:10 on a goal by sophomore Mike Beach (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) with an assist from junior Rob Siddell (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manilus). Brockport went ahead 2-1 midway through the second quarter before Oneonta scored back-to-back goals to regain the lead at 3-2. A man-up goal by Beach brought the game back to even, which is how the first half ended.
The visitors scored the first two goals of the third quarter, which would be their final ones of the day, as the Red Dragons' defense took over and held the Golden Eagles scoreless the rest of the way.
Senior Mike Louer (Islip, NY/Islip) made 15 saves in the win for Oneontta while his counterpart, Jim Amell (N. Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse) made 16 in a losing effort.
Oneonta will be on the road this Wednesday when they travel to Potsdam for a SUNYAC game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
