|Oswego, NY: The Oswego State men^Òs lacrosse team extended its winning
streak to four games as the Lakers knocked off nationally-ranked Geneseo
14-8 on Saturday, April 13th at the PathFinder Bank Community Sports
The Lakers trailed 4-3 early in the second quarter before reeling off
four straight goals to take a 7-4 lead into the intermission. Mike
Malecki (Baldwinsville) keyed the run with a pair of goals.
Oswego State padded the lead in the third after Geneseo struck first on
a goal by Dave Spennacchio (Fairport). Scott Ferguson (Ronkonkomo)
netted a goal with the Lakers on the man-advantage and then Jason
Hawthorne (Baldwinsville) and made it 9-5 scoring just over a minute
apart. Oswego State would get the next three goals capping a five-goal
The Lakers led 12-6 heading into the final period and traded a pair of
goals with the Blue Knights to secure the upset.
Geneseo entered the game ranked 18th in the latest US Intercollegiate
Lacrosse Association Division III Poll. The loss knocked the Blue
Knights to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the SUNY Athletic Conference.
With the win, the Lakers moved over the .500 mark at 6-5 and are now 4-2
in the conference.
Brian Dautrich (Auburn) led the Lakers with three goals and three
assists, while Malecki also had the hat trick. Hawthorne scored twice
and assisted on four others, while Ferguson added a pair of goals.
Spennacchio and Sam Del Favero (Auburn) each scored three times for
Earning the win in net for the Lakers was senior Darin Ledwith
(Rochester) as he made 13 saves.
Andy Howk (Pittsford) made eight saves for the Knights and David Knapp
(Canandaigua) had three.
Oswego State plays next on Wednesday, April 17th playing at Ithaca
College at 4 p.m.
